A RESORT BUILT AROUND ART

Maxx Royal Bodrum Resort

Nestled along Turkey’s Southwestern coast, Bodrum offers a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.
Art and culture has always been deeply rooted in the region. Once known as the ancient city of Halicarnassus, home to the fabled Mausoleum of Mausolus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it now captivates with whitewashed villas draped in bougainvillea, turquoise bays and a cosmopolitan spirit.

Art is a central element of Maxx Royal’s identity. International names such as Refik Anadol and Bernar Venet present their works on the resort grounds, alongside emerging young Turkish artists. Venet created one of his largest sculptures to date: two monumental vertical arches as an impressive entrance to the resort’s marina. Los Angeles-based digital artist Anadol displays one of his data-driven installations in the lobby, which is inspired by the ocean.

This year, the luxury resort has expanded its focus on art: A newly opened space where Turkish galleries display a selection of their most special pieces from their program. Among the galleries are EArt Gallery, PG Art Gallery, Merkür Gallery, and One Arc Gallery, which showcase works by artists such as Ergin İnan, Eelcho Hilgersom, and Emilie Gotmann. Each of these artists represents a unique language in their respective fields, showcasing the cultural richness and diversity of the galleries.

Iconic art alongside iconic food concepts. Caviar Kaspia, a Parisian institution since 1927, brings its luxury gourmet concept to Turkey with its Bodrum location. Designed by Beau Bow under the direction of Alexis Mabille, the restaurant is reminiscent of the French Riviera of the 1970s. Signature dishes include the caviar-topped potato and the Royal Crab salad.

Bernar Venet, a central figure in the international art scene, is known for his sculptures made of Corten steel and rolled steel. With these ascending vertical arches at the entrance to the resort’s marina, he has created one of his largest monumental works to date. Venet’s presence extends throughout the property, with his sketches gracing the walls of the public areas and several of his sculptures on display. A coffee table book about the artist and his work was commissioned especially for the resort and is displayed in all suites. Even the size of the installations, like Venet’s 21-meter-high arches and Anadol’s large-format video work, make the art clearly come alive. This unique art concept sets Maxx Royal Bodrum apart from the rest. Here, art isn’t just decoration, but an integral part of the whole experience: as curation, exhibitions, and also as a platform for artists.
