OVERLOOKING THE ATLANTIC OCEAN

Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa

Back in the early 1990s, when an piece of land was found high above the cliffs of the Atlantic coast in the Algarve, it was clear that this spot was meant for something more than just a regular vacation hotel.

Dr. Reinfried and Anneliese Pohl saw the spectacular location near Porches as a chance to make their dream of timeless luxury come true. Vila Vita Parc opened its doors for the first time in 1992, at that time still modest in size, with around 60 suites, tennis courts and a small piazzetta reminiscent of a Mediterranean village.
The first few years were followed by cautious but consistent expansion. Already in 1995, the resort was accepted into the exclusive circle of Leading Hotels of the World, a significant milestone that established Vila Vita Parc as one of the premier luxury destinations in Europe.

The entire complex feels like a small village nestled on a hill, surrounded by subtropical gardens, right on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The whitewashed facades with their red tiled roofs are a clear reference to traditional Algarve architecture. A concept that is also reflected in the interior: sandy beige tones, bright white and muted blue combine minimalist design with the key elements of Moorish architecture. Bright and airy rooms, often with panoramic views of the garden or sea, combine comfort with subtle references to local craftsmanship, such as Portuguese azulejo tiles, masterfully crafted mosaics and ceramic objects from the region.

From early on, Vila Vita Parc saw itself not only as a retreat, but also as a culinary destination. Dining concepts are a central part of the resort’s identity, characterized by artisanal standards and a deep connection to the region. The hiring of Kurt Gillig in the late 1990s marked the beginning of a phase in which the culinary profile of the hotel was significantly enhanced. The culinary highlight to this day is Ocean, spectacularly located on a cliff above the Atlantic Ocean. For years, the cuisine here has been characterized by a focus on product quality and precision. Awarded its first Michelin star in 2009 and its second in 2011, this approach has been validated, making the Ocean one of Portugal’s most renowned fine dining destinations. Austrian chef Hans Neuner draws inspiration from the journeys he takes each year, following in the footsteps of the Portuguese during the Age of Discovery. The menu features sophisticated dishes such as Huli-Huli-Chicken with barbecue sauce, Iberian pork pluma, and One Night in Bangkok, composed of scarlet prawn, kompot pepper and celery. But culinary excellence at Vila Vita Parc has much more to offer.

Casual dining, international cuisine, Portuguese classics and Mediterranean lightness can all be found here. The Atlântico stands for Portuguese classics: fish and seafood play a central role, while the Giardino takes a culinary trip beyond Portugal: the Italian concept captivates with homemade pasta, risottos and, of course, a touch of dolce vita.
It’s also worth taking a look beneath the beautifully maintained lawns: this is where the Cave de Vinhos, the resort’s own wine cellar, is hidden. Eight meters below ground, a stone staircase leads to a vault made of solid bricks, whose patina breathes the history of decades of wine tradition. The bricks themselves, some over 150 years old and imported from countries such as Egypt, Austria, and Greece, create ideal temperature and humidity conditions with their solid construction, providing a natural shelter for the impressive selection of wines and rarities, these include a bottle of Madeira Verdelho from 1850 and a 1996 Château Mouton Rothschild 1er Cru Classé.

A stay at Vila Vita Parc would not be complete without the Vila Vita Spa by Sisley Paris: this area has been developed into one of the resort’s central wellness elements and is considered one of the most exceptional spa destinations in Portugal. The spa oasis itself is a collaboration with French skincare and wellness brand Sisley Paris, a first for Portugal and an expression of the hotel’s high standards of holistic well-being. The spa design is inspired by the natural sea caves of the Algarve: natural stone, soothing colors in shades of blue and green, an architecture that combines light, space and tranquility that create an atmosphere where stress and everyday life are immediately left behind. The spa offers a multiple choice of treatments, renowned for combining an advanced scientific approach, like facials, body treatments as well as mediation and yoga.
