Designed by renowned architectural firm Arquitectonica, led by Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Mandarin Oriental Pudong combines modern elegance with local roots and is complemented by an impressive art concept: more than 4,000 original works, predominantly by contemporary Chinese artists, characterize the atmosphere in the public areas as well as in the guest rooms. Especially eye-catching is the monumental mosaic glass installation in the lobby, a work
by artist Miao Tong which is inspired by an ancient forest and serves as a central visual statement. The color and material concept focuses on natural tones, soft wood surfaces, and fine materials such as marble. Complemented by subtle references to the river and the local landscape, as well as echoes of traditional Chinese motifs, the result is an interior that is equally modern, artistic, and deeply rooted in the region.
This design concept is also reflected in the rooms and suites. Spacious and featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, they offer beautiful views of the Huangpu River and the city’s skyline. With a blend of contemporary design, artistic details, and the highest level of comfort, they embody the hotel’s commitment to luxury not only in terms of amenities, but as a holistic experience.
Culinary excellence is the hallmark of Mandarin Oriental Pudong, particularly at Yong Yi Ting, which specializes in refined cuisine from the Hangzhou region. This culinary tradition is considered one of the most elegant in China: subtle in flavor, rich in texture, and characterized by a balance of freshness and sophistication. The restaurant, which has been awarded a Michelin star several times, interprets classic recipes in a contemporary way and presents them in an atmosphere that is as artistic as it is modern. The menu includes delicious dishes such as double-cooked fish ball soup with sweet beans, braised pork belly with dried bamboo shoots and pumpkin pancakes, as well as soufflé with walnut cream. A visit to Yong Yi Ting is a journey through the flavors of iconic China: exquisite, authentic, and yet surprisingly new.
The Qi Bar at Mandarin Oriental Pudong is the perfect place to enjoy Shanghai after dark. Crystal chandeliers, fine materials, and a terrace overlooking greenery create a luxurious ambience that shifts between lounge atmosphere and lively nightlife. The menu features creative signature cocktails as well as classic drinks, accompanied by Asian tapas.
