CYCLADIC

The Greek island of Santorini is mainly characterized by its traditional architecture—the villages completely painted in white, located on the tops of the highest cliffs.

Following this path, Divercity Architects and MplusM Architects designed an architecture that reflects the traditional elements of the island. In this way, NOUS Santorini, the newly opened hotel in tranquil Mesaria, resembles a contemporary version of the style-defining white houses. Architecture in dialogue with the surrounding nature and culture.

The rooms and suites are presented in warm beige and brown tones, the materials and textures used are inspired by things that existed for centuries in Santorini, such as volcanic stone and the woven low vines, which serves as an inspiration for the shades. The interior also features design icons by Konstantin Grcic and Faye Toogoot.

A

rt plays an equally large role in NOUS and the resort is defined by it. From Greek antiquity to contemporary art, references can be found at every corner. For instance, the murals found in the archaeological area of Akrotiti define the color palette of the resort. Dakis Joannou (owner of YES! Hotels Group) is an art collector and is considered one of the most important collectors of contemporary art. His collection includes Jeff Koons, Mike Kelly and Christopher Wool. NOUS exhibits works from Joannou’s private collection as well as a large number of contemporary works by young Greek artists. All represented Greek artists have created works exclusively for the resort, which refer to the history of Santorini and discuss, among other things, the volcanic nature of the island. Art collector Joannou is also, in addition to other positions, President of the International Council of Directors of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and founder of the art foundation DESTE, which has its location in Nea Ionia near Athens.
