Organic Shaped Modernism

The Georg Jensen Curve Collection

ANZEIGE

The perfect curve is often found in nature. The inside of an open shell, the gentle curve of a flower head bursting from a bud, or the ephemeral shape left behind by a wave in the sand – all these are examples of how nature effortlessly creates beauty every day. Always inspired by the world around her, designer Regitze Overgaard has worked tirelessly to create her own perfect bow. The new CURVE collection – inspired by one of the brands best-selling jewelry designs, the Curve ring (also designed by Overgaard in 2006) – shows the exquisite beauty of a perfect contour and is a bold and sculptural continuation of GEORG JENSEN’s rich heritage of organic jewelry design. Now launched as an entire collection.

“Nature Formed” celebrates the special relationship between design and the elements of nature that were the original inspiration. From the rugged coastlines and beautiful forests to the very special Nordic light, nature has been an inspiration for the materials, shapes and textures of many things that we consider to be true Scandinavian style. The flowing forms of a bracelet, the color of a vase, the curvature of a neck ring – all of these reflect the environment in which the creators live, breathe and work.

Regitze Overgaard is a genuine personality – and long-term designer at the famous Danish jewelry house GEORG JENSEN. She finished her apprenticeship as a goldsmith in 1970, graduated from the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts in 1976 and started working for GEORG JENSEN in 1987. Many of the company’s most successful jewelry lines are designed by her.  These include the popular MAGIC, INFINITY and ZEPHYR collections – and the newly introduced CURVE collection.

Her unique ability to capture the organic yet infinite lines of nature in precious metals caught the attention of leading figures in art and design early in her career. She was more than any other pioneer of organic design. Her inspiration comes from the light of a Nordic summer sky or water cascading over stones, or simply from just the act of movement.

The designs, with their striking elegance and purity, has a fresh, modern character that radiates light and life. Regitze Overgaard works according to the maxim that jewelry should be as simple as possible; the shape of the metal and not external decoration should convey artistic power. Her jewelry combines lightness and volume – a balance of contrast which is difficult to achieve. In her work there is a constant reference to the human body. This kind of interaction between the metal and wearer is important for every piece of jewelry in her collections. In Overgaard’s work the form of the jewelry respects the natural lines of the body and accentuates them with a sure sense of style, elegance and individuality. Overgaard’s collections reveal a keen eye for the sublime forms of nature.

Masterfully crafted curves combine with contrasting sharp lines to create powerful, modern and timeless pieces, while the interplay of soft and hard, sterling silver and yellow gold lends them an artistic and sensual aspect. The result is a collection with a truly timeless look.
